Overview



This single-player campaign spans six maps. It is set on Aiur and runs alongside the events of the vanilla protoss campaign "The Fall", with a focus on the Zerg perspective during that time period.

Inconsummate is the first major project I've completed. As such, my goal for this campaign was to develop a bar of quality that all future work of mine should exceed. If you have any feedback for my projects that you'd like to share with me, my contact info can be found here.

Features


Inconsummate stands apart from other Starcraft custom campaigns, featuring:

  • A diverse voice cast. Experience the story without having to read the lines out loud.
  • Custom terrain. Some of the highest quality graphical edits the game has hitherto seen decorate the battlefields of Aiur, allowing for dynamic thematics and visual storytelling.
  • A real challenge. Sporting custom AI scripts and unique level designs, Inconsummate's missions will engage you with unpredictable trials, testing both your skill and adaptability.
  • New heroes and abilities. Inconsummate's characters don't behave like their vanilla counterparts. Your ghost hero packs two stuns for powerful crowd control, and your defiler hero attacks viciously in close quarters and sustains back the health by consuming its allies.
  • A story with scale. Inconsummate is meant to augment StarCraft's storytelling, not replace it. The tale told within this campaign will answer important questions about the minutia of Blizzard's own story, while simultaneously sharing a memorable experience that stands on its own merits.
  • And if that wasn't enough, the content within Inconsummate will be expanded upon well past the remit of an ordinary campaign. Additional chapters of this story will be produced as time goes on.

Installation
  • if you don't already have it, download and install version 1.16.1
  • place the maps in your 1.16.1 maps directory (usually `program files (x86)\starcraft\maps\`)
  • place Inconsummate.exe anywhere you have read/write privileges, e.g. the maps directory
  • place the wmode and wmode_fix dll files in your 1.16.1 installation directory
  • run Inconsummate.exe — if you have problems launching, see below


Troubleshooting:

  • If your exe throws antivirus issues, it's showing false positives due to the plugin injection code. The exe is safe for your PC.
  • If your exe does not run after you select your 1.16.1 starcraft.exe, make sure your 1.16.1 installation directory is higher than your 1.2+ directory (by renaming it to SCBW, or renaming SCR's directory to zStarcraft, for example).
  • If you have issues with windowed mode even after moving the dll files to the directory, try moving the wmode.ini file to your 1.16.1 installation directory.

Notes:

The briefings of Inconsummate may be longer than other custom campaigns you've played. To avoid confusion, wait for the 'End of briefing' text to appear before pressing start; otherwise, you risk missing vital story info.

After each briefing, you may skip the in-game introduction cutscene of each map by pressing the escape key a few times. This is only designed to work for the opening cutscenes, and will likely desync later cutscenes, potentially preventing you from continuing the mission. Use discretion.

In the sixth map, be advised that pausing the game will desync the music during cutscenes. During gameplay, pausing the game will pause the music, but will not affect the sync as the loop will resume shortly after the game is unpaused.

All of my projects are open source. Should it suit you, open up the exe and take everything. Add the included mpq to your SCMDraft profile in order to open the maps. I hope you can take something constructive away from my work, and as stated above, feel free to contact me with any questions.
